Flower Dye’s mission is to connect people with the earth through beauty and color.

Flower Dye is a natural dye fashion studio based in Kingston, New York.

We do the following:

-sell our line of eco luxury fashion and accessories all made in NYC

-teach natural dye classes throughout the US

-work with a farm in Vermont to grow many of our dyes which we use in our products and sell.

Flower Dye is run by Susanna Taylor, who began her entrepreneurial career in ecofashion with her company Earthen Warrior. She has translated her 15 years of ecofashion and natural dye expertise into Flower Dye.

Flower Dye wishes to propel the sustainable fashion conversation beyond consumerism into the realm of experience, spiritual alignment with the earth, and questioning how our existence on earth is impacted by our actions and purchases.

Principles We Follow:

Circular Fashion

The principles of Circular Fashion are (as stated by Green Strategy):

  • Principle 1: Design with a purpose—All garments are designed to fill a niche in the market and to enhance the life of the customer.

  • Principle 2: Design for longevity—All products are made to last a lifetime.

  • Principle 3: Design for resource efficiency—We optimize textile use by having a range of products which use a variety of textiles sizes, for instance cuttings can be reused for smaller items like masks.

  • Principle 4: Design for biodegradability—All of our items are made of natural materials and natural dyes, which are biodegradable

  • Principle 5: Design for recyclability—Because the materials are high quality, they can be used to make other things at the end of their life

  • Principle 6: Source and produce more locally—We use locally grown dye, and local textiles when available.

  • Principle 7: Source and produce without toxicity—all of our dyes are completely non-toxic and most of them carry healing properties.

  • Principle 8: Source and produce with efficiency—We make items in batches and always use leftover dye for materials we can use on future projects.

  • Principle 9: Source and produce with renewables—Everything we make is made with natural materials which are renewable and beneficial to the land where they are grown. Our packaging is made of 100% recycled and recyclable paper.

  • Principle 10: Source and produce with good ethics—From the farm labor to factory labor, we maintain strong relationships and ensure that all labor along the way is ethical and supports a thriving life for those employed.

  • Principle 11: Provide services to support long life—We provide mending and re-dye services for all of our products. Each product comes with care instructions and we make sure customers understand how to maintain the longevity of products.

  • Principle 12: Reuse, recycle or compost all remains—We use all items, including fabric scraps. All dyes are composted as part of a regenerative agriculture system.

  • Principle 13: Collaborate well and widely—We work with farmers, small factories and independent companies to bring our products to our customers. We know that in diversity is strength, and this goes for the group of people we work with to bring our products to market.

Practices We Follow

Regenerative Farming

Regenerative Farming is:

Regenerative agriculture is a conservation and rehabilitation approach to food and farming systems. It focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity,[1] improving the water cycle,[2] enhancing ecosystem services, supporting biosequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil. Practices include recycling as much farm waste as possible and adding composted material from sources outside the farm.
